Food in England

Visiting London has been a balance between sight-seeing and also trying to get to the best food in London. I had done the research of where I wanted to go and what I wanted to eat and it also helped having a friend who is very savvy about all the good cafes and restaurants to go to in London. Having only 3 and half days was not enough to get everything in; I probably needed just a week of food visitations to get through it all. Good food is everywhere in London, from delicious Indian to great bakeries. Here are some of my favourite food memories in London.

Nordic Bakery
14A Golden Square, Soho, London W1F 9JG

Cinnamon lovers assemble! Their cinnamon buns are filled with with layers and layers of  cinnamon. This small bakery is a great place to have a lazy coffee and a quick bite. The blueberry cake was a treat, as was the almond twist, if you want something other than cinnamon buns.

Padella
6 Southwark St, London SE1 1TQ, UK

If you’re a pasta lover, this place is a must when you visit London. But you have to be prepared to get there early and wait in line! Padella opens for dinner at 5pm, and there’s usually a line well before it opens. But it certainly is worth the wait! Fresh pasta served with simple but delicious sauces.

The Good Egg
Ground Floor, Kingly Court, Kingly Street, Soho, London, W1B 5PW

Such a lovely cafe with a middle eastern inspired food. It has a bakery with lots of treats like Babka bread and brownies and I wish I had enough room to try these as well. I had the Babka French Toast which was really delicious. They do dinner as well, which was one thing I found out about London cafes. They are open much later than in Australia, which is a bonus.

El Pastor
7A Stoney Street, London SEI 9AA

This place was perfect for an early dinner when you’re terribly jet-lagged! Delicious tacos and they were very quick with the food. It’s made to share and we loved the prawns and the sesame tuna. If you like some spicy food, this is a good place to try. El Pastor is located right near the Borough Markets.

Bumpkin
102 Old Brompton Road, London SW7 3RD

Got a taste for some delicious British food here at Bumpkin. We picked out a few dishes and were able to share all of it. Each one was delicious and I really loved the fish and the calamari. Dessert was delicious with a brownie and malted cream on the side. I loved that malted cream!

Gelupo
7 Archer St, Soho, London W1D 7AU, UK

No matter how dreary and rainy the weather is, I am always up for some gelato. And if you’re in the mood for some dessert, this place is great with handmade gelato using seasonal ingredients.
